The SoHo Pilates Professional Teacher Training Program
Six immersive institutes.
Two Generations away from Joseph.
600 hours of training.
A PHD in Pilates.
Our goal is to provide the most comprehensive and in-depth Pilates teacher-training program in New York City.
The SoHo Pilates Certification program combines six intensive training weekends with a structured apprenticeship and teaching period, allowing students to complete a 600-hour comprehensive certification over one year.
Our curriculum takes place over approximately eight months, while students continue their self-practice, observation, teaching, apprenticeship and mentorship throughout the year.
An additional 750-hour Advanced Track is available to students who want to continue into advanced and archival repertoire.
Our program emphasizes not simply learning an extensive exercise repertoire, but understanding how the Pilates system works as a whole.
Course Overview
A central idea of the Soho Pilates Teacher Training will be helping students understand the thread that connects the entire Pilates system.
Rather than learning Mat, Reformer, Chair and Cadillac as separate collections of exercises, students will learn how the same fundamental principles and movement patterns appear throughout the system, such as:
How a movement introduced on the Mat develops on the Reformer
How beginner exercises prepare the body for intermediate work
How intermediate exercises lead into advanced repertoire
How the same movement concepts appear across different apparatus
How the apparatus can be used to prepare, support or challenge a movement
How exercises can be progressed or regressed
How to build a coherent session rather than simply select individual exercises
The goal is for students to begin seeing the system rather than memorizing the system.
This concept will be introduced from the very first weekend and continue throughout the entire program.

Our Lineage
SoHo Pilates has a particularly strong connection to several important Pilates teachers and lineages.
The primary lineage represented within the program includes connections to:
Inelia Garcia
Inelia Garcia represents another important lineage within the Soho Pilates teaching community, contributing to the transmission and development of the classical work. The teacher known for being the longest with Romana who spent thousands of hours studying and understanding the system of Pilates, and the ‘why’ of the entire system.
Lolita San Miguel
Lolita San Miguel was certified by Joseph Pilates and represents one of the direct connections to the original Pilates method.
Her influence will be incorporated into the program through the teaching lineage and historical understanding of the method.
Kathi Ross-Nash
The program also carries the influence and lineage of Kathi Ross-Nash, whose work is deeply connected to the classical Pilates tradition and to teachers including Romana Kryzanowska and Lolita San Miguel.
The intention is not to teach multiple lineages as competing systems, but to give students an understanding of the history, transmission and development of the method while establishing a strong and coherent Soho Pilates teaching approach.

Yes! However, we require you to take classes or privates beforehand. This way, you can enter the program with a base knowledge of Pilates so you can focus on learning the important stuff!
-
That is totally dependent on you! the training dates are set in stone, but you can work on your personal practice, observation, and teaching hours on your own. Most students finish in a year, while dedicated students could finish in 8 months.
-
LOL no. This is a legitimate classical training program so you must be trained in all apparatus as Pilates is a system and works holistically.
-
There are many misleading and scam certifications out there that claim to be internationally recognized. The Soho Pilates Professional Teacher Training Program is internationally recognized due to it’s close proximity to Joseph Pilates and it’s rigorous comprehensive nature. This Certification will allow you to be hired by any studio around the world, classical or contemporary.
-
Once you graduate, you are certified for life, while we strongly encourage continuing education on a quarterly basis, especially with Inelia, Kathi, and other master teachers. We do not require it.
-
This certification will be lead by Co-Owners of the Soho Pilates Professional Teacher Training Program Madeline Gullett & Michael de Gautier.
Surprise teachers for workshops to be announced!

Yes! If you are interested in just doing a Classical mat certification that not only allows you to work at Classical and contemporary studios worldwide, but also prepares you any further certification, email us.
Mat is the foundation of Pilates which is why we allow some Mat-only participants.
